Problem

A nonprofit foundation dedicated to fostering self-worth and independence for individuals with disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorder and Intellectual Disabilities has been a cornerstone of its community.

The foundation's mission is to provide opportunities for these individuals to contribute meaningfully and participate productively in society.

Over the years, the organization has operated from a small, aging building, which has limited its ability to expand programs and serve more community members. The foundation sought to expand its footprint for over seven years but faced challenges finding suitable properties within its community. The organization was determined to stay rooted in its neighborhood, emphasizing its commitment to local impact.

Challenges

Limited Resources: Operating from a dilapidated building hampered the foundation's ability to grow programs or attract new participants.

Community-Centric Location: The organization was committed to staying within its community, which significantly narrowed the scope of potential properties.

Funding Barriers:  Securing the financial resources necessary for such an expansion presented a significant hurdle.

Our Solution

Our company partnered with the foundation to address these challenges with a comprehensive approach

Identifying Opportunities: Leveraging our extensive network and market expertise, we identified two off-market properties within the foundation's desired community. These properties offered a combined 40,000 square feet of space—ten times the size of their existing building—providing ample room for expansion, accessibility upgrades, and new programs.

Securing Funding: Understanding that securing the properties and funding renovations required significant financial backing, we worked alongside the foundation to engage donors. We successfully convinced key donors to contribute over $8 million through strategic outreach and compelling presentations. This funding covered the cost of purchasing the buildings and allowed for renovations that ensured accessibility, functionality, and long-term sustainability.

Impact

The acquisition and renovation of the new properties have been transformative

Increased Capacity: With 40,000 square feet, the foundation can accommodate more participants, add new programs, and create dedicated spaces for skills training, recreation, and community events.

Enhanced Accessibility: Renovations have made the buildings fully accessible, ensuring inclusivity for individuals with a wide range of needs.

Strengthened Community Ties: By remaining in its original community, the foundation continues to build on its legacy and foster connections with residents and businesses.

Our collaboration with the foundation exemplifies the power of partnership and innovation. By addressing challenges holistically—identifying off-market opportunities and securing donor support—we helped the organization achieve its vision of empowering individuals with disabilities. This project expanded the foundation's physical footprint and reinforced its mission of creating a more inclusive and supportive community.
